Due to navigational restrictions caused by low water levels in sections of the Rhine and Danube rivers, Avalon is making adjustments to select cruises in order to continue operations.  This includes modified itineraries and ship changes, when needed, while still maintaining the original itinerary as closely as possible. As soon as Avalon has confirmation that a cruise requires significant changes, we will notify guests and travel advisors, so they are aware of the modifications (whenever possible, prior to departure).

We have been operating successfully over the past couple of weeks with mostly minor adjustments and are hopeful we can continue to do so as these conditions remain. We are doing all we can to avoid departure cancellations, but if the experience and itinerary of the cruise is significantly compromised, we will cancel. Whenever possible, Avalon will notify guests and travel advisors ahead of time and offer them options for rebooking, alternative itineraries (with adequate compensation), or refunds. 


Water level conditions can change within hours especially when rain/showers are forecast. Because of the fluid nature of conditions and the unreliability of weather forecasts, we do not modify or cancel cruises until we are certain changes are needed or operation is not possible. This is typically 2-3 days prior to the cruising day that requires the change, although in the case of persistent low-water requiring major itinerary changes or cancellations, it could be as early as 5-7 days prior to travel.  If your departure falls outside of this time frame, consider the status of your original itinerary unchanged unless otherwise notified by Avalon.  Avalon will update all guests and travel advisors directly with options.

Destination Requirements 

All countries have differing rules for entry, with a lot now adding specific requirements regarding the timelines of second vaccinations, and some demanding that visitors must be boosted before entry. Please ensure you check your country requirements. Remember for any cruise ship itineraries you need to review each country visited on the sailing and their requirements.


UK Passengers travelling will need to check:
