19 Day River Cruise Port-Saint-Louis to London
A Master of Wine will accompany you on your river cruise in France with presentations, tastings, and wine pairings along the way. Your Avalon river cruise on the Rhine and Rhône Rivers begins in Port-Saint-Louis where you’ll board your Avalon Suite Ship®. You’ll enjoy a guided walking tour of Arles—the city in Provence, which inspired works by Vincent van Gogh. On a guided tour of historical Avignon, see the 14th-century Palace of the Popes—the largest Gothic fortress in the world—and take a guided tour to Châteauneuf du Pape. Sail to the charming village of Viviers to see the Romanesque cathedral and historic Old Town. In Lyon, take a guided tour to Beaujolais and the following day to Chardonnay, where you will have the opportunity to taste local wines. Cruise to Mâcon for an excursion to a Chardonnay wine cellar.

Transfer to Basel to embark on your Rhine River cruise. Take an excursion to Bavaria’s Black Forest, before sailing to Strasbourg, France. Follow the Rhine on to Mainz and Rüdesheim, and sail through the stunning views of the Rhine Gorge on your way to Koblenz. Cruise to the Rhineland’s capital city of Cologne and choose between a guided city walk to its magnificent Gothic cathedral, or a walking tour of the city’s notable Jewish heritage sites.

Your cruise continues into the colorful city of Amsterdam, where you’ll explore Holland’s capital city with a canal cruise, before traveling via high-speed train to Paris, where your Monograms® vacation package begins. Spend two days each in Paris and London, including guided sightseeing and helpful onsite support from expert Local Hosts® in both these exciting cities.

Day 10 Strasbourg: Choice of guided sightseeing, visit La Petite France district and the Gothic cathedral or bike with your Adventure Host

Day 11 Mainz: Choice of guided tour of Heidelberg Castle, see the Great Vat, or hike up Philosophers’ Way, or visit the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz

Day 12 Rüdesheim-Rhine Gorge-Koblenz: Visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum in Rüdesheim or hike in the vineyards with your Adventure Host; cruise through the Rhine Gorge; free time in Koblenz

Day 13 Cologne: Choice of “Cologne Highlights” walking tour, or Jewish Heritage walking tour or bike with your Adventure Host

Day 14 Amsterdam: Choice of canal cruise or walk with your Adventure Host

Day 15 Amsterdam (Disembarkation)-Paris: Transfer from your ship to the train station then travel to Paris by high-speed train (first class)

Day 16 Paris: Guided sightseeing, Seine River cruise

Day 17 Paris-London: Travel to London by high-speed Eurostar train (standard class)

Day 18 London: Guided sightseeing, visit St. Paul's Cathedral (except on Sundays)

Day 19 London: Your vacation ends this morning
